The Association for Biometrics is an organisation based in the UK who has been championing the biometric cause for many years. Throughout this time, they have been responsible for several initiatives around raising standards and have chaired some notable biometric conferences.
The Biometric Consortium serves as the US Government's focal point for research, development, test, evaluation, and application of biometric-based personal identification/verification technology. There is much of interest on this site, including a wealth of links to other areas.
The BioApi Consortium, as its name suggests is engaged in the foundation and promotion of a common biometric API in order to promote easier and consistent software development within the biometric industry. It is supported by several leading companies from within the broader IT sphere as well as biometric specific vendors and developers.
Research related to iris recognition, decision theory, computer vision, wavelets, neural networks, decidability metrics, integration of evidence, demodulation codes, and statistical pattern recognition. This is a site which will appeal strongly to those with a technical interest into biometrics and synergistic technologies.
The CT DSS Biometric website documents that organisations implementation and operations of a large scale biometric identification system since 1996 and serves as a government resource for those interested in biometrics. It also has links to other biometric sites, vendors, consultants, magazine and news articles, daily updated Breaking Biometric News and the free bi-monthly Biometrics in Human Services User Group Newsletter.
The Counterdrug Technology Information Network was established to provide local, state and national drug law enforcement officials a location to share project ideas, locate commercially available products and locate past and present government projects that may help their efforts. A section for biometrics entitled "Search Biometrics" was established at the beginning of 2000. CTIN is a free service for those that are posting or reviewing information.
The ESP is managed by the Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University on behalf the U.S. Government and represents a U.S. Policy Board initiative to bring technology and a new way of doing business to the security community. This may be an interesting and useful site for biometric practitioners.
